SAMPLE INVENTORY

Moon in Cancer (Dignified): You're maternal, sympathetic, artistic, creative, dramatic, patriotic (due to love of home), sometimes patronizing and have a meditative mind. You naively trust your feelings, which are deep and intense. You're apprehensive about things outside your control. You hide your true feelings under a hard shell. You have very accurate sense perceptions, but don't often act on them and, when you do, your reactions are slow and uncertain. Since you're very intuitive and often psychic, you're overly sensitive to others emotions and outside conditions, often letting them affect your mood. You're especially close to your home and family, with deep strong bonds to your mother that may become a complex. You often make changes in your life and travel, but you need a home base to come home to. You're easily imposed upon, then resent it, even though you like taking care of others and understand their feelings. You're thrifty and careful with your money and possessions and hate to see anything wasted or abused. You're more romantic than passionate and are usually good at poetry, music and acting. You hold all you experience in your emotional memory. Men can be too emotionally sensitive and attract a motherly mate. Women are too easily hurt and tend to dominate at home. If afflicted, you tend to smother and/or dominate your kids.

Moon in the 11th House: You need companionship for your emotional well-being so you like to join groups and societies. You make friends easily, many through family associations, but must guard against superficiality. Many of your friends, especially women, are helpful, but if the Moon is heavily afflicted, your friends may use you since you used them in the past and few of them are really close friends. Your home is usually the place for group activities. Your goals are varied and changeable. Your views are objective, detached and unprejudiced.

Moon Inconjunct Mercury: You're cunning, astute, excitable, restless, inconsistent and nervous and you may be underhanded or a gossip. Your anxiety and restlessness often cause digestive problems. You find it difficult to solve problems since your intellect and emotions are out of sync. You often speak before thinking or blurt out secrets. You're loyal to your friends and a defender of the weak. You often have an interest in health.

Moon Square Venus: You're overly sentimental and emotional and unwise romantic/sexual encounters can cause you sorrow. You're unable to express your emotions, which may cause problems in marriage. You have financial and social problems in your domestic life, due in part to being unlucky or careless with money. You give your affections indiscriminately and are too trusting of your spouse and partners, often resulting in your being taken advantage of. You may experience delays or difficulties in getting married, often due to your parents objections to your choice of partner. You have emotional stress in your early childhood and your home life and your tie to your mother is often unhappy. You're moody, over-indulgent and tend to be careless and disorderly. You're popular, but tend to be over-assertive to conceal your shyness. Your judgment may be weak. You give more love than you receive until your karmic debt of unlovingness is repaid. You have a strong urge to be the center of attention to compensate for an inferiority complex. Women may have periodic illness and/or divorce.

Moon Inconjunct Jupiter: You're popular and have a good sense of humor but tend to be lazy at times and to have weak judgment overall, especially in finance and domestic matters. You often over-extend yourself financially and your self-indulgence can cause liver problems. Inner conflicts revolve around religion. You must learn to plan and to develop patience and calmness.

NOTES/EXPLANATIONS (Dealt with in the order they appear above)

  1. "Artistic" and "creative", although often considered to be the same thing, can be completely different. You can be creative by being a carpenter who builds houses, for example, which is not usually considered artistic.
  2. "Lack of self-assurance" comes from Moon in Cancer, "apprehensive about things outside your control".
  3. "Mother complex" can be anything from blaming your mother for your problems to not doing anything without her approval, etc.
  4. If it says "Men can be..." or "Woman tend to be...", use only the one appropriate for you.
  5. When it says "If afflicted...", it refers to both the aspects and the placemet of the planet. In this example, although the Moon is dignified, the aspects presented are all "negative" aspects and therefore, the moon is afflicted.
  6. Heavily afflicted usually means more powerful, negative aspects than positive aspects and usually poor placement as well-- for example, having the Moon in Capricorn (in detriment), square to Mercury, Mars and Saturn, in opposition to Pluto (squares and opposition are negative and powerful aspects) and sextile to Venus and the ascendant (sextile is positive, although less powerful) would make the Moon heavily afficted, in my judgment.
  7. The * after "easily imposed on by others" comes from Moon in the 11th House, "friends may use you".
  8. "Cunning" and "excitable" belong on the page marked "Either" since each, as is, can be both a positive and negative trait.
  9. The first * after "Goals are variable/changeable" comes from Moon Inconjunct Mercury, "inconsistent".
  10. The * after "Hide true feelings" comes from Moon Square Venus, "unable to express emotions".
  11. The * after "Naively trust feelings" is from Moon Square Venus, "too trusting of spouse and partners" but may be put after "Easily imposed on by others" if you want.
  12. The first * after "Easily makes friends" comes from Moon Square Venus, "popular".
  13. The * after "Lack self-assurance" comes from Moon Square Venus, "inferiority complex".
  14. Second * after "Easily makes friends" comes from Moon Inconjunct Jupiter, "you're popular".
  15. "Poor/weak judgment" is mentioned first in Moon Square Venus and again in Moon Inconjunct Jupiter, it has a * after it. Since it specifically mentions finances, a * was also place beside "Financially careless".
  16. "Over-indulgent" is first mentioned in Moon Square Venus and "self-indulgent" is mentioned in Moon Inconjunct Jupiter, thus the *.
  17. The second * after "Goals are variable/changeable" is from Moon Inconjunct Jupiter "must learn to plan".
  18. "Impatient" comes from Moon Inconjunct Jupiter, "must learn to...develop patience" and the * after "Nervous" comes from "must learn to...develop...calmness."

As you can see, it's largely a judgment call. Don't worry that you may make a mistake— trust your intuition. If you choose to "weight" you chart, putting more emphasis on the stronger aspects, you can do it several ways. When a trait is mentioned in one of the more powerful aspects, you can make two marks after it (or, if it's the first time you're writing it, write it and then put one mark after it.) You can do the same thing with planets that are Exalted or Dignified, or those in Fall or Detriment. Emphasize the "Tools" for exalted or dignified and the "Things to Fix" for fall or detriment.

If one trait is mentioned several times in one explanation, you may place a mark each time it's mentioned, or simply place a second mark since it's stressed in the explanation. You may combine traits that are very similar if you choose to, or you can list them all separately.

Again, I emphasize, please don't be discouraged if you end up with more "things to fix" than you have "tools" to fix them with. Remember, we're never given a task beyond our capability to handle.

Good luck and have fun.

Quadruplicities (Modalities)

Fixed Signs Your keyword is fixity. Your resistance to change manifests as self-will. These are the most consistent and persistent of the signs. You're reticent and non-commital on first approach. You have a quiet and organizing force. Your actions are motivated by principles. You're unswervingly stubborn and never deviate from a set path unless you want to. A planner and constructor, you're basic motivations are seldom obvious and not willingly revealed. You're a reservoir of energy and/or power. You have a definite pattern and resist all outside influences to change.
In Taurus, your power is latent.
In Leo, your power is active.
In Scorpio, your power is hidden and far more subtle.
In Aquarius, the power is on a higher plane.
Negative aspects in fixed signs represent harmful effects of self-will. These are hardest to deal with since they represent lessons we failed to learn over many lifetimes, deeply ingrained patterns and behaviors that are harmful to spiritual growth. You need a great deal of attention and self-discipline to divert energy into constructive channels. They're agents of karma and the law of cause and effect in motion.
Mutable Signs Your keyword is flexibility. You're pliable and adaptable to change and circumstances, easy-going and tolerant. Your interests are centered in direct and highly personal relationships. A great joiner, you're interested in minute details of personal living. You tend to scatter your forces in too many directions and can be a drifter with a changeability, lack of persistence and weak will. Outside conditions can dominate you due to instability in asserting own individuality. Negative aspects are easiest to correct since they're only just beginning to manifest and can be handled by right attitudes of the mind. If many planets are in mutable signs and/or angular, you're prone to negativity and apt to exaggerate anything negative. You're far more open to suggestion than others.
Cardinal Signs Your keyword is activity. You're outgoing and enterprising and your actions are fast, direct and objective. They heighten your activity and speed, lend executive ability and give you energy and strong ambition. You like to meet an issue, solve it and move on to something else. They give you the best temperament to handle the immediate situation. You're creative and self-assertive.
Aries is direct and uncomplicated.
Cancer is less direct on the physical level but more subjective and assertive on the emotional level.
Libra is self-assertive on the mental level.
Capricorn is the most materially oriented and activity is directly related to social prestige and importance in the outer world.
Negative aspects are the faults and unlearned lessons of the previous life and can be changed by constructive action.
